Dr. LaRocque’s research focuses on the effects of dam and levee breaching in the effort to mitigate potential flooding disasters. The focus of her studies are to conduct dam-break and levee breach flows, both large and small scale, using video-image processing, Ultrasonic Velocity Profiler for velocity and a Baumer Distance Measuring Device for water surface. In addition to her experimental work, she has also conducted numerous numerical simulations of dam-break flows. Dr. LaRocque also investigated over 25 dams after the historic 2015 flooding in the Midlands of South Carolina.
