Dr. Madalina Corina Badea has been a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC, since 2012. Prior to joining USC, she served as a research staff scientist at the Research Center Karlsruhe (2003-2012) and the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics (NILPRP), Bucharest, Romania (1995-2003). Dr. Badea received her Ph.D. (2011) from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. She also holds a Master’s Degree (1999) and the Engineer Diploma (1995) in Technological Physics from the University of Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Badea specializes in sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification, as well as predictive modelling (including data assimilation, model calibration and validation). Thus far, she has published 11 journal articles and 28 papers published in peer-reviewed international conferences. She received the 1st Prize at the 4th International Conference on Agro and Food Physics, Istanbul, Turkey (2000) for her work on “Thermo-luminescence, photo-stimulated luminescence and ESR analysis of electron-beam irradiated spices”.
