We work with technical colleges across South Carolina to help you become a teacher.

Tech2Teach - A Pathway to Teaching

Are you attending a South Carolina technical college and want to become a teacher? If so, Tech2Teach can help you achieve your goals.

Tech2Teach, housed within the College of Education, is committed to helping you make a smooth transition to one of our teacher education programs. If you attend or plan to attend a technical college and have questions about course selection or the transfer process, contact Marissa Rittermeyer, our Tech2Teach advisor.

Tech2Teach Partners

The College of Education collaborates with several South Carolina technical colleges, including Central Carolina Technical College, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Midlands Technical College, and Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.

Even if you attend or plan to attend a different South Carolina technical college, you can participate in Tech2Teach. Contact Marissa Rittermeyer, your Tech2Teach advisor, for more information.

Make Your Plan

Step 1: Review the advisement guide above.

Step 2: Contact Marissa Rittermeyer to discuss your transfer plan before you register for your next semester of technical college courses.

Step 3: Let your technical college's advisor know you plan to transfer to USC's College of Education.

Praxis Core

As required by the South Carolina Department of Education, all students in a teacher preparation program must meet the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators requirement.

You must meet this requirement in order to successfully progress into upper-level courses in the education programs at the University of South Carolina. You can meet this requirement in one of the following ways.

  1. Pass all three sections (reading, writing, and mathematics) of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators.
  2. Exempt all or part of the Praxis Core exam with qualifying ACT or SAT scores.

If you have not met the ACT or SAT exemption score, you should begin preparing for the Praxis Core requirement while at your South Carolina Technical College. You are not required to have passing scores before transferring; however, it is important that you reach out to your Tech2Teach advisor to learn more about this requirement and exemption qualifications.

Also, if you plan to apply for the South Carolina Teacher’s Loan, you must have the Praxis Core requirement met before receiving the loan.

You can find more information on the Praxis Core, including the ACT and SAT exemption scores on our Praxis Core Assistance webpage.
