Areas of Focus

In service to our mission, the Center for Educational Partnerships has three primary areas of focus: Professional Development, Research and Policy, and Engagement. We develop resources that are useful for our stakeholders as well as the public at large.

Professional Development | Research and Policy | Engagement

Professional Development

The Center for Educational Partnerships provides educators, the South Carolina Department of Education, post-secondary institutions, students, parents and community members throughout South Carolina with access to high quality professional development and training, expertise, materials and technical assistance.

Featured Professional Development Resource: The Geospatial Revolution Project
The Geospatial Revolution Project  is a media and outreach initiative of Penn State Public Broadcasting on the broad reach and impacts of geospatial technologies; how theye shape the ways that we think about, relate to and interact with the world around us.

Research and Policy

The Center for Educational Partnerships serves as a research and policy hub for South Carolina, making information about the best and most current educational research and evidence-based practices more widely available and easily accessible to schools and other practitioners, parents, communities, and policy makers through the web and events held throughout the year.

Featured Research and Policy Project: South Carolina School Climate Profiles
In collaboration with the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee and the South Carolina Department of Education, The South Carolina Educational Policy Center creates and updates four-year school climate profiles for South Carolina’s Palmetto Priority schools and provides technical assistance to both South Carolina’s Department of Education and school district staff on interpreting the profiles and identifying appropriate strategies for improvement. The Education Policy Center plans to expand the number of low-performing schools served by this project during the coming year.

The Center’s engagement activities build the capacity of schools, families and communities to work effectively as partners in fulfilling their shared responsibility to ensure that every child in South Carolina has access to a quality 21st century education. We also assist in the creation of new and collaborative projects and partnerships that connect schools and students with needed community resources.

Through our partnership with the SC School Improvement Council, we continue to provide vital materials, training and technical assistance to parents, teachers, high school students, community members and administrators who serve on local School Improvement Councils at over 1,100 K-12 public schools throughout the state.

Featured Engagement Project: South Carolina School Improvement Council: Engagement for Outcomes
The South Carolina School Improvement Council is currently piloting its new initiative, Engagement for Outcomes, which is designed to build the capacity of local School Improvement Councils to achieve outcomes. The School Improvement Council provides participating councils with materials, training and ongoing on-site technical assistance as they work to identify school needs, set goals, select effective practices, assist in planning and implementation, and evaluate their results. Schools participating in the pilot are from Fairfield, Greenville, Oconee, Marlboro and Lexington/Richland 5 school districts.
