All students must participate in an advisement session each semester in order to map out their schedules and stay on track for graduation. In fact, you must meet with your advisor before you can register for classes for your next semester.

You will be notified via e-mail and the BSIS Listserv when it is time to schedule your advisement appointment. Don't delay in scheduling your appointment as we need time to prepare for your session. Plus you want to be able to register at your appointed time. You will be scheduled for a 30-minute session, so it's important to arrive on time and ready for your appointment.

You will be advised for the spring term in September-November and for summer and fall terms (including transient work to be done at other institutions) in February-April.

How do you schedule an Advisement Appointment

First, you need to know who your advisor is. Here's how you do this:

  • log into your Self-Service Carolina account
  • select the "Students" tab
  • then select the "Student Records" box.
  • then select "View Student Information." Your primary advisor will be listed here.

Second, schedule an appointment with your assigned academic advisor using the Online Appointment System».

Where is your advisor's office?

All information science advisor offices are in the School of Journalism building located at 800 Sumter Street, Suite 118.
