Employers love to hire our students as interns. In fact, typically we have as many internship possibilities as we do students to fill those slots. So, if you’re interested in hiring a student intern from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, consider the following:
1. Can you provide a meaningful supervised experience in a professional work setting for students majoring in print, broadcast, public relations, advertising or visual communications?
2. Pay a stipend or by the hour. Research shows that employers who are willing to pay our students have a better chance of finding the right intern!
3. Students who are getting academic credit:
- must be a junior or senior.
- must have professional supervision in the student’s area related to the student’s major.
- must have a designated work space at the internship company.
- must work a minimum of 140 hours.
- must complete the internship while school is in session (Fall, Spring or Summer semesters).
- must get the internship approved in the career services office before the internship begins.
4. While many of our students find their own internships and complete them without credit and without pay, only those who register their internship in the career services office are eligible to receive USC liability insurance.
