A minimum of 120 semester hours of credit is required for all of our degrees. A minimum
of 40 to 49 hours will complete the Carolina Core requirements and either a 12-hour
cognate or 18-hour minor. A minimum of 48 hours must be completed in Journalism and
Mass Communications courses.

You may receive only one degree from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

The SJMC offers several master's degree programs, as well as a doctoral degree. SJMC students may be interested in our Accelerated Master of Mass Communication degree, which enables students to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in as little as five years.
