Tim Smith

Master of Music in Conducting, Messiah University
B.A., Music Education, Rutgers University

Timothy (Tim) Smith brings more than two-decades of experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students to the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. In his role as graduate programs manager, Smith will assist with the leadership of the graduate program and coordinate its day-to-day operation. He will advise students across all SJMC graduate programs, and support students in the program from the time of their admission until graduation.

Smith comes to the SJMC from the Honors College, where he was the scholar programs coordinator. There, he created and executed a number of special programs while advising 240 academically high achieving students on all aspects of their collegiate experience including academics, experiential education, study abroad opportunities, professional preparation and graduate school decisions.

Prior to his time at UofSC, Smith was a member of the music faculty at Rutgers University for 20 years, where he served as the director of the University Marching Band, the largest student organization on campus — comprising up to 250 students in three band programs. In this faculty role, he mentored the graduate students on his teaching staff and developed a deep commitment to fostering the development of graduate students.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
