Background/Work Experience
Stephanie Martin is a seasoned public relations professional with experience in the nonprofit, government, utilities and higher education industries.
Her communication skills have been honed through positions with United Way, the state's electric cooperative association, Clemson University youth development programs and as a university instructor since 2012.
Martin's areas of expertise include marketing materials production (print, outdoor, video, and web), fundraising, government/constituent relations, brand building, youth development, volunteer recruitment and retention, community relations, writing and editing, presentations and social media.
Research
Martin's academic interests are nonprofit public relations, political communications,
and event planning in addition to online course administration.
She is currently working to complete the Carolina Online Learning and Teaching Certificate
through the UofSC Center for Teaching Excellence and recently became certified as
a Mental Health First Aider through the National Council for Behavioral Health.
Teaching
Martin has a passion for helping students prepare themselves for the professional world through strong writing skills and common-sense approaches to professional work. Her teaching focuses heavily on public relations and writing.
She teaches Writing for Mass Communications, Public Relations Writing, and Public Relations for Nonprofit Organizations. She also coordinates the school's Internship in Mass Communications course and works with the CIC Career Services Manager in assisting students with their resumes, cover letters, interviewing skills and internship searches.
Service
Martin is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and served as a past communications officer.
A former 4-Her, she has given many hours of her time over the years as a volunteer judge for state-level 4-H competitions in addition to serving as a CreateAthon@UofSC mentor, a communications advisor for Defenders for Children and a Girl Scout troop leader.
She has also worked as a communications volunteer and company campaign chair for United Way of the Midlands.
Personal
A native of Sumter, Martin is a proud alumna of UofSC and LSU, which makes her both a Gamecock and a Tiger.
She has collaborated to win multiple ADDY awards and a Best of Show from the American Advertising Federation, in addition to several accolades from United Way of America and the Southern Public Relations Federation.
Martin is a long-time member of Delta Gamma (Women's) Fraternity, and in 2016, received the organization's Cable Award for "unusual loyalty and devotion far beyond normal alumnae participation."
In her free time, Martin and her husband enjoy taking care of their rescue dog.
