Before enrolling in graduate school, Denetra Walker worked in several behind-the-scenes roles in television news markets including Augusta, GA; New York, NY; Houston, TX; Columbia, SC; Las Vegas, NV—covering some of the nation's biggest stories.
Her experience working in and managing a newsroom inform her teaching and academic research. She is passionate about addressing issues of diversity, equity and inclusion in college classrooms and newsrooms.

While at UofSC, Walker has taught reporting and editing, Intensive Writing and Mass Communication Theory. She was also the co-instructor for the Inaugural Digital Media Academy here at UofSC. She currently teaches Minorities, Women, and Media.
