Background

Laura Haverkamp is in her 22nd year as a high school media specialist at Dreher High School in Columbia, South Carolina, where she just earned honors as the 2020-21 Teacher of the Year.

Haverkamp previously worked as an English teacher at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, and at John Jay High School in Brooklyn, New York. She earned National Board Teacher Certification as a school librarian in 2003, and a renewal in 2013.


Teaching

As a graduate teaching assistant at UofSC, she has taught two courses — Storytelling and Young Adult Materials — and is excited to be training upcoming teacher librarians.


Research Interests

school libraries and digital devices; student reading in 1:1 schools; minority students and school libraries
