Brown bag luncheon

Programs

From guest speakers to unique educational opportunities, we offer a variety of diversity, equity and inclusion programs throughout the year for members of our college and the public.

Brown Bag Luncheons

The Brown Bag Luncheons are opportunities for conversations about diversity-related topics. Speakers hail from a variety of backgrounds including business and academia.

CIC Diversity and Inclusion Research Symposium

The college sponsors a research symposium to highlight the latest diversity-related research from CIC faculty. The symposium was created to build awareness of the diversity research being done by the CIC’s faculty and spotlight research collaborations between the college’s two schools.

CIC Inclusive Excellence in Graduate Studies Open House

The CIC hosts an open house targeted toward students at historically black colleges and universities in South Carolina, as well as Columbia College and USC. Attendees from schools including Claflin University, South Carolina State and Voorhees College make the trek to campus to get information on the MA, MMC, MLIS and Ph.D. programs.

Dean's Lunch and Lead

This event, hosted by Dean Reichert, brings together CIC student leaders, faculty and staff to engage in dialogue about diversity and inclusion issues which affect the student experience.

Digital Media Academy

Students from diverse backgrounds are invited to apply for the week-long video storytelling camp, which will prepare them for a spectrum of media careers. This is an effort to help the profession as much as possible, while also providing a valuable learning opportunity for students from the CIC and area HBCUs.

Linda Lucas Walling Collection

Housed in the South Carolina Center for Community Literacy, the Linda Lucas Walling Collection is a selection of books designed to provide self-instruction on selecting and evaluating materials for children with disabilities and materials about children with disabilities. The collection includes professional resources, books for children with disabilities, books about children with disabilities, and winners of two awards given to books about children with disabilities — the Dolly Gray Award and the Schneider Family Award.

MLK Day Breakfast of Champions

This annual event, held in partnership with the American Advertising Federation of the Midlands, introduces communications careers to students at the University of South Carolina, as well as from area HBCUs and high schools.
