The Islamic World Studies minor introduces you to the histories, cultures, religions, and politics that have shaped—and continue to shape—global affairs. You’ll experience the different peoples and historical events in the Islamic world while also surveying the diversity of Muslim communities across the region, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
In this program, you will analyze how ancient civilizations gave rise to enduring cultural traditions, trace the expansion of major world religions and their many interpretations, explore the legacies of empire and colonialism, and engage with pressing contemporary issues such as migration, globalization, conflict, and cultural exchange. Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the everyday lives, artistic traditions, intellectual debates, and cultural practices that make the region and its diasporas so dynamic.
