African Studies Minor

The African Studies minor immerses you in the diverse societies that make up Africa and its diasporas. The minor helps you apply lessons from the region locally and globally.

In this interdisciplinary curriculum, you will explore the intricacies of African societies and politics alongside topics that have shaped the modern world — such as human rights, decolonization, development, justice and sustainability. You can also study African music, African literature, public health, the environment and more.

Our Courses

As an African studies minor, you’ll learn the history, politics and economics of the continent, and you’ll develop practical vocabulary in commonly spoken languages. Find updated course listings and minor requirements in the academic bulletin.
