The School of Visual Art and Design at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Graphic Design, to commence August 16, 2019 at the rank of Assistant Professor.
We seek candidates with expertise in digital design environments with an emphasis on advanced typography for a range of digital media platforms. This faculty member’s design research should contribute to the sub fields of expressive and experimental typography, font design and implementation, and conceptual design research across print and digital delivery, including screens. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a high level of creative accomplishment, excellent teaching, and school, college, university, and professional service.
The teaching emphasis is to develop student conceptual skills across all levels but
with a focus foundational skills in computer-based design for the creation of moving
and still typographic media (i.e., image and font creation using primary software;
editing for specific outcomes such as concept and product presentation; project management,
etc.). The Graphic Design specialization in Studio Art emphasizes quality design;
students must develop strong foundational skills to achieve a successful portfolio
review and advance into the BFA.
