Rebecca has a Masters degree in Media Arts from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelors in Astronomy from the University of Virginia. Her documentaries have screened at the Indie Grits Film Festival, the Reel Black Pix Film Festival, and the Leander McCormick Observatory Public Nights; and they have encompassed topics as diverse as globular clusters of stars, drag queens, sheep, and community art.
Her feature film script, In Spite of It All, was a finalist in the 2015 Nashville Film Festival and placed in the top 5% in the 2015 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowship competition. A Nicholl reader described it as “an absolutely charming and enchanting script” that was “a clever [...] romantic comedy (from the Civil War?) about the relationship between the Irish nurse and her patient.” The script was also praised by the Blue Cat Screenplay Competition as “rich with extraordinary detail and references to great Hollywood epics” and “particularly interesting in its exploration of the fragmented Irish identity.”
Rebecca’s TV spec pilot script, Finding George, has also been a finalist in two international screenwriting competitions and was described as “wisely written”, “clever in its subtlety” and “a very exciting science fiction epic” by the WILDsound Feedback Festival.
Rebecca Boyd received the Ada B. Thomas Outstanding Advisor Award for the 2018-2019 year from the University of South Carolina.
