Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia invites applications for multiple Visiting Assistant Professor positions in Statistics and Data Science. Applicants must have a PhD in the statistical sciences and must be committed to excellence in teaching. A successful applicant is expected to teach service courses to undergraduate students and courses to undergraduate and graduate majors in statistics. Additional opportunities to collaborate on research, both within and outside the department, are available and will be encouraged. The start date is January 1, 2022. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed for an additional year, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. This position is ideal for the candidate who is thinking about pursuing a career in academics with teaching as a major focus.

The Department currently consists of twelve tenured/tenure-track faculty and five full-time instructors. Current research areas of the faculty include survival analysis, big data/data science, Bayesian methods, latent variable models, semiparametric and nonparametric methods, functional data analysis, mathematical statistics, stochastic processes, and statistical genetics. The Department has about 35 full-time graduate students and offers PhD, MS, and BS degrees.
