Monique Patton Garvin, a Spring 2019 MPA graduate, represented the MPA program as
a 2017-2018 Graduate Civic Scholar where she was selected as one of twelve master
and doctoral candidates to conduct community engaged research. Garvin was selected
to present her research at Discover USC. Discover USC showcases research, scholarship, leadership, and creative projects by undergraduate
and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and medical professionals representing
the entire USC system. This event features more than 1,000 presentations over the
course of one day and involves stakeholders from every part of the university. Garvin’s
project focused on the social and academic outcomes of high school seniors, parents,
and alumni of Richland County public schools. The goal of her project was to use the data
to inform policy and practice recommendations for local school districts. On behalf
of the faculty of the MPA program, we congratulate Monique Garvin on her achievements and commend her on her policy research!
