SMARTSTATE CENTER FOR EXPERIMENTAL NANOSCALE PHYSICS
University of South Carolina
College of Arts & Sciences
Department of Physics & Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of South Carolina invites applications for an endowed chair in Condensed Matter Physics to sustain the SmartState Center for Experimental Nanoscale Physics. The successful candidate should be eligible for appointment as professor with tenure with a start date of August 16, 2020. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. and is expected to lead, strengthen, and expand our existing programs in nanomaterials and condensed matter research. He/she must have at least 9 years of experience by the beginning date of employment with demonstrated significant achievements in condensed matter physics, be internationally recognized for their work in this field, and have a track record of significant external funding to support their scholarly activities. Candidates are also expected to strive for excellence in teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level physics courses.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy conducts vigorous research in experimental and theoretical nanoscale physics. The SmartState Center hosts a state-of-the-art shared facility for the design, fabrication, and characterization of nanoscale materials. The recent addition of a newly renovated Class-1000 cleanroom and a helium recovery and liquefaction system fully supports nanofabrication efforts and low temperature studies of novel materials.
All applicants must submit their application through the online employment system “USC Jobs” at http://uscjobs.sc.edu/postings/67383. Candidates should be prepared to upload a CV, a cover letter, research plans, and teaching interests. Contact information of at least three, but no more than seven, referees must also be submitted via the “USC Jobs” system. Confidential inquiries can be made to the search committee chair, Prof. Brian C. Benicewicz, SmartState Chair in Polymer Nanocomposites, email@example.com, 803-777-0778.
