Instructor, Studio Art, Pam Bowers currently works in painting and mixed media involving drawing, alternative photographic processes and digital means. Her work explores nature as a connecting force in the intersection of art, science and mythology and express her affection for the wilderness and biological forms. There is an emphasis in her work, teaching and research on the interrelationship between environment, culture and individual material usage in the formation of visual meaning and metaphor. Her interest are interdisciplinary, including biological representations, women’s studies, ethnographic studies, poetry, world travel and the outdoors. She has researched and created work in Central America, North Africa, Asia and Europe. She earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1985 and her MFA in 1994 from Indiana University, where she studied painting in Bloomington, Indiana and in Florence, Italy. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and internationally in Italy and Australia. She teaches all levels of painting and undergraduate drawing.
