STAT 540 - Computing in Statistics
Class Session: Thursday, August 24, 2017 - Friday, December 08, 2017
Credit: 3 semester hours of undergraduate/graduate credit
Prerequisites: A grade of C or higher in STAT 515, STAT 509, STAT 512, or equivalent.

An introduction to statistical packages such as R and SAS with special focus on data management and computing procedures such as Monte Carlo simulation.
Course will be delivered by Web conferencing utilizing Adobe Connect. Students may be present, either in person or online, for the class sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:20-3:35, or may view the class at a later time. USC Columbia students may attend classes in Wardlaw College room 116; all other students will view classes via the Internet. For students viewing the class live online, the Adobe Connect URL will be posted in Blackboard by the instructor prior to the first class meeting.

Proctored tests may be taken on campus or at a distance site. Dates, times and location will be scheduled by Instructor.
Course Delivery Type
A Web course is taught using one or more web delivery platforms such as Blackboard, Streaming Video, Adobe Connect etc. Students must have access to a high-speed Internet connection. More information will be provided by the instructor in the course syllabus.
(100% asynchronous - if course has any online or face-to-face meetings, live attendance will not be required. For any such sessions, there will be alternative ways to view or obtain the material covered).
Textbooks are available from the USC University Bookstore in the Russell House Student Union, Greene Street, Columbia, SC, 803-777-4160 (toll free at 888-654-5320). Online text ordering is available through the bookstore Web site at www.shopgamecocks.com. Delivery options are in-store pickup or UPS shipping (Ground, Second Day, or Next Day). Students are required to indicate their course section to order online; there will be a "J" prefix on the course SECTION number for this course. Special Fee Notification
Students may be required to be proctored during online test completion. If students are unable to attend test proctoring sessions in person at the Distributed Learning office, additional fees may apply for online test proctoring if the course requires online testing.
