Awarded to SLIS full-time outstanding student(s) enrolled in the MLIS program. Preference for the fellowship is given to a graduate of Gilbert High School, located in Lexington County, South Carolina. In the event this fellowship cannot be awarded to a graduate of Gilbert High School, secondary consideration will be given to a student who is a resident of either Lexington or Kershaw counties in South Carolina. If no student meets any of the above criteria, the fellowship will be awarded to an outstanding student. Awarded to a student (s) with outstanding academic performance and potential, demonstrated motivation and who has a demonstrated aptitude for librarianship for or storytelling to special education students. Primary consideration will be given to a College of Library and Information science student planning to work in public elementary school special education or planning to specialize in storytelling to students with special needs. In the event no applicants meet the primary criteria, the scholarship may then be given to a College of Library and Information Science student planning on working in any area of the special education field. In the event that no applicants meet the primary or secondary criteria stated above, the scholarship may be awarded to a College of Library and Information Science student planning to work in a public school library media center which serves among its constituents, special education students. The SLIS Doctoral Student Research Support Endowment Fund No April 1 Mike Corbo 803.777.3858 mcorbo@mailbox.sc.edu
The purpose of the fund is to provide support for the research work of doctoral students in the SLIS. Support may be used for a variety of research needs including, but not limited to: travel expenses for research purposes; conference attendance for presenting research results; purchasing needed data/information, software, equipment, or consulting help for research; essential publication expenses. Awarded to students who are enrolled in at least three (3) hours. Requests for support should be made to the Director of SLIS. Funding decisions will be made by the Director in consultation with the Directorís designated faculty and the Doctoral Studies Committee. The Foundation or its appointee(s) shall have full authority and discretion to invest the funds contributed by Donor either separately or pooled with other funds held in its fiduciary capacity. Fees may be assessed to pay for investment management and administration of the Fund. The amount distributable will be in accordance with the Foundationís spending policy. Excess income may be added to the principal.
