| The Graduate Director puts out a call for nominations from the faculty. All graduate students who plan to work in computational mathematics are eligible, but preference is given to those who have actually started dissertation work in the area. Faculty send their nominations with a description of the students plans or work in progress. The Graduate Advisory Committee reviews the nominations and recommends the student to be awarded. The cumulative academic records are considered along with the research plans/progress. (For 2011-2012, the meeting was on 9/27/2011 and two students were considered.) The Graduate Director conveys the consensus decision to the Chair and initiates the monetary award process. |

| The Victor Laurier Undergraduate Research Scholarship provides monetary support for an undergraduate student interested in being involved with mathematical research. This is a competitive award based on proposals submitted by all interested students. The selection is based on a written proposal. The proposal should explain the basic mathematical problem to be studied, why this problem is of interest to you, and prior knowledge you have about this project (courses and/or independent study), and anticipated results. The proposal does not need to have any mathematical detail. The entire proposal should be no more than two (2) pages. Students interested in the Laurie Scholarship are encouraged to apply to USC's Magellan Scholar Program.
