Award Amount: $2,000 total, or $500 per year for four years

Eligibility Requirements: This award is exclusive to incoming freshmen—NO exceptions.
At least one parent, legal guardian or grandparent must be a graduate of a Carolina campus and a current My Carolina member. To be awarded the scholarship, applicants must have applied for admission to Carolina and have been accepted.

In-state applicants must present the following:
• Minimum score of 1240 on the SAT (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math) - OR - ACT Composite score of 26
• Weighted GPA of at least 3.0 from an official high-school transcript (as calculated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions)


Out-of-state applicants must present the following:
• Minimum score of 1280 on the SAT (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math) - OR - ACT Composite of 27
• Weighted GPA of at least 3.5 from an official high-school transcript (as calculated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Recipients may attend any Carolina campus

Additional Information: Awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis and must meet the requirements noted above. Out-of-state recipients may also be eligible to receive a tuition rate reduction. Tuition rate deduction is received from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Scholarship renewal is automatic as long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and full-time student status and the sponsor's My Carolina membership is current.

The Richard T. Greener Scholarship is $2,000 per year. Out-of-state students may be eligible to receive a tuition reduction. (Note: Tuition reductions are based on academic requirements as set forth by the University.) Half of the yearly scholarship amount is issued each semester for a maximum of 8 semesters (summer school excluded) provided eligibility is maintained.
The endowment serves as a tribute to the scholarly work and achievements of Richard Theodore Greener who, in 1873, became the first black faculty member at Carolina and held that position until 1877.

Eligibility Requirements: Sponsored by My Carolina's Black Alumni Council since 1983, the Richard T. Greener Scholarship is awarded to a well-deserving incoming minority freshman based on academic achievement, leadership ability, community service and financial need. This award is exclusive to an incoming freshman entering in the fall. Applicants must have a minimum weighted GPA of 3.0, as calculated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Applicants must present at least 1080 on the SAT (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math) - OR - ACT Composite of 21.

This award is based on academic achievement, leadership ability, community service, and financial need and attend the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina.

Additional Information: Applicants must submit an essay and two letters of reference as described in the application.
