USC Sumter

Established in 1966, the University of South Carolina Sumter has as its mission to provide higher education and intellectual leadership for the Sumter area. USC Sumter offers a varied curriculum rooted in the liberal arts and aimed at preparing students to continue their education in the University and throughout life. This curriculum allows students to fulfill most general education requirements for baccalaureate degrees within the University. The campus also serves as a site for selected course work applicable to the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies degree, awarded by USC Columbia; the Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree, conferred by USC Aiken; the Bachelor of Arts degrees in early childhood education and in elementary education, both conferred by USC Spartanburg; and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, conferred by USC Columbia, and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, conferred by USC Spartanburg. Opportunities in continuing education and the Extended Graduate Campus Program are also available. Undergraduate enrollment for the 2000 fall semester was 1,173.

The Sumter campus also collaborates in the on-site completion of six different bachelor’s degrees by offering selected upper-division course work in conjunction with the Aiken, Columbia, and Spartanburg campuses.
