USC Sumter 2020 Summer Scholars Series

Summer shouldn't be boring, so why should summer camp? USC Sumter Summer Scholar Series is designed to engage imaginations, stoke creativity, reward curiosity and just be a barrel of fun. This year we have six classes over three weeks designed to tempt even the most picky personalities!

Week 1 Class:  June 22 - June 26, 2020

 

All About Art

9 AM - 12 PM • Ages 9-14 • Seats Available: 20
With Morgan Edwards
This year’s art camp will be a wide array of creativity-stoking mixed-media! Students will practice and apply wood burning (pyrography) to a major project. Pupils will also learn how to indigo dye and gain experience in projects such as alcohol ink, dreamcatcher, mandala, clay sculpture and gourd art. Some projects will vary from last year. Additionally, students will be introduced to yoga to boost creativity. Register Now

Mock-Trial 

Have you ever thought about becoming a lawyer? How about a judge? In Mock Trial, participants will explore our court system from the inside, acting as lawyers, judges, witnesses, and jurors as they try their own court cases. It’s a great opportunity to have fun while building valuable skills, including public speaking, logic and reasoning, and reading and writing. Come join us this summer for Mock Trial! Register Now

Week 2 Classes: June 29 - July 3, 2020

 

Write On!

9 AM - 12 PM • Ages 9-14 • Seats Available: 20

Do you like to tell stories? Do you find your imagination running wild? In our class, students will have the opportunity to participate in fun, interactive and independent writing exercises that explore the techniques of mystery writing, creative fiction, realistic narrative fiction and non-fiction. Students learn tips for getting started, how to “reel the reader in” and how to use the five senses to unlock the power of descriptive writing.   Register Now

Mad About Science

1 PM - 4 PM • Ages 9-14 • Seats Available: 28

Have you ever wondered why we can’t just jump in the air and fly? Have you ever looked at a tree and wondered how it’s made? Ever wondered why we think the way we think? Students will be introduced to human biology, environmental science, psychology, biochemistry and physics in fun and interactive ways. Conduct scientific experiments and explore firsthand the environment in which we live. For the third year we will have the Greenwood Genetic Center Mobile Science Lab team joining us.   Register Now

Week 3 Classes: June 24 - June 28, 2019

 

Center Stage Theatre Camp

9 AM - 12 PM • Ages 9-14 • Seats Available: 25
With Alethia Hummel 
The Center Stage Theatre Camp will provide children with the opportunity to learn aspects of creating a theatre production. Some of the activities students can anticipate experiencing include building sets, props, singing, dancing and basic acting skills. Not only will they rehearse the play, but they will also participate in theatre games and activities to help develop poise, voice, confidence and movement. Every student is cast in a part adapted to fit their specific talents and needs that allow them to explore, imagine, create and most importantly have fun! Participants need not have theatre experience to participate. The week will conclude with a final performance on Friday, July 10 at 6:30 pm in the Nettles Auditorium. E-Sports Hands On!

Are you a gamer? Do you enjoy playing video games competitively? Have you ever been part of an online gaming team? Students will play alongside USC Sumter’s varsity eSports players and experience what it is like to be a part of an eSports program.
