Budget request submitted this week

The University of South Carolina submitted its official 2017-18 budget request to Gov. Nikki Haley this week. The request reinforces the university’s core commitment to help ensure student success while also working to improve the health of South Carolina residents through research and education. Highlights from the budget request include:

  • new student success initiatives at multiple system campuses designed to improve overall student advising while expanding access and retention for low-income and first generation students;
  • a new initiative allowing undergraduate students interested in pursuing careers in health sciences the chance to enroll in a living/learning community. Students will have access to special programming, enhanced advising and career development opportunities;
  • a new campus for the School of Medicine in Columbia’s Bull Street development. Directly adjacent to Palmetto Health Richland, the campus will allow for closer collaboration with the hospital as well as serve as an interdisciplinary health sciences research center;
  • necessary upgrades to existing facilities on several system campuses.

Additional details about the budget request will be posted here soon.
