In-Person Recognition Ceremony for 2020 Graduates
While degrees were already conferred at virtual ceremonies, all 2020 graduates and select guests are invited to celebrate at a special in-person event.
This recognition ceremony is designed to fulfill the promise that 2020 graduates will
be celebrated in person and features many traditional elements of Commencement. The
ceremony will stream live on this page for those who cannot attend.
Date: Saturday, May 15, 2021
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Location: Williams-Brice Stadium
Arrive early to safely enter the stadium in a manner that maximizes physical distancing. Graduates should only enter the Student Gate (Gates 88-96) at the northeast of the stadium. Guests may enter in the designated guest gates.
- The ceremony is estimated to last two hours.
- Graduates should be in their seats at least 45 minutes before the ceremony.
- Please refrain from wearing heels to the ceremony as you will be walking across the grass football field to approach the stage.
- This event will take place rain or shine. See information below about inclement weather.
- Bottled water will be available to purchase in the concession areas for $2.
Health and Safety Protocols
Participants and guests will abide by the safety and COVID-19 protocols established for the ceremony.
- Face coverings (over the nose and mouth) will be required as a condition of all guest entry and throughout the stadium.
- Graduates will process to the platform but will not shake hands with President Caslen and academic officials.
- Guests will be seated in physically-distanced groups of five seats marked with green stickers.
- For greater convenience and safety, mobile-only ticketing will provide contactless entry to Williams-Brice Stadium.
Please review the guidelines below for this event. For questions regarding the ticketing process, please contact the Gamecock Student Ticket Office at firstname.lastname@example.org. For all other commencement questions, please contact the Registrar.
Academic regalia for the 2020 Graduate Recognition Ceremony is expected to be worn by all graduates. Academic regalia may be purchased from Oak Hall. A limited supply of tassels and stoles will be available at the Gameday Store for sale the day of Commencement. The store is located in the Bignon Gameday Center on the northeast side of the stadium.
Graduates who have indicated that they are attending this ceremony will receive five guest tickets. These general admission tickets will automatically be added to your former student account and you will receive an email approximately three weeks before your ceremony about how to access them. Once you receive access, please distribute the tickets to your guests and remind them to save their ticket to their phone before arriving at the stadium.
Seating is general admission and there are no assigned seats. Gates open 90 minutes before the ceremony. Your guests must sit together in a set of five seats marked with green stickers.
If you do not need all five tickets, you can either not use them or give them to another graduate. If you do give them to another graduate for their guests, those guests will need to sit with your guests in a group of five.
Free parking will be available in Gamecock Park, located adjacent to Williams-Brice Stadium on Bluff Road. The lot opens two hours before each ceremony, and restrooms are available on-site.
Additional parking is available at the SC State Fairgrounds, located adjacent to Williams-Brice Stadium on George Rogers Boulevard. A fee of $5.00 per vehicle will be charged.
No tailgating is allowed.
Accessible parking will be available in the Premium North and Premium South lots in Gamecock Park. Golf carts will be available to transport the graduate and two guests to the ADA-designated entrances at the stadium.
Williams-Brice Stadium features multiple premium seating areas that will be available for purchase to accommodate additional seating requests for the University of South Carolina’s recognition ceremony. These areas include suites, club spaces, and loge suites with access to covered, climate-controlled spaces.
If you have questions regarding premium seating or suites for commencement ceremonies, please contact Kendra Holaday at email@example.com.
Those who purchase additional premium seating will still receive their original five general admission tickets. The general admission tickets cannot be used to gain access to premium areas.
Accessible parking will be available in the Premium North and Premium South lots in Gamecock Park. Golf carts will be available to transport the graduate and two guests to the ADA-designated entrances at the Stadium.
Anyone with mobility concerns or deemed at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 by public health officials is strongly encouraged to view the livestream rather than attend the ceremony in person.
There will be wheelchair-accessible seating available at Williams-Brice Stadium on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who need the accommodation. No prior arrangement is needed for guests who need this seating. Due to the limited nature of accessible seating, each guest requiring wheelchair-accessible seating may be accompanied by one companion. The remainder of the guests can sit in general seating. For guests who require wheelchair-accessible seating, there will be a tent at the south entrance of the stadium. Please enter through Gates 48-50 at "The Zone" entrance, and you will be directed to available seating.
Visitors with mobility concerns but who do not require wheelchair-accessible seating should arrive early to sit in the general admission seats and be prepared for the exertion of the day. Stadium Gates open 90 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.
For graduates who need ADA accommodations, please contact the Student Disability Resource Center at (803)777-6142 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The ceremony will be held rain or shine, unless in the event of severe weather. Severe weather is defined as rain accompanied by high wind, thunder, and lightning.
If it is raining on the morning of Commencement, but not declared severe weather, the ceremony will be held as planned in the stadium.
If the weather is a concern for you or a member of your party, the ceremony will be live-streamed on this page. You can share the short link go.sc.edu/2020grads with your friends and family.
