Changes in Email Alias System

In order to provide a more secure email environment and improve operational efficiency, University Technology Services (UTS) will change the way email aliases operate later this month. 

The alias email domain of will be migrated to the University Exchange email system. A small number of employees will be required to take steps to continue using their alias email address. If you are one of those individuals, you will receive an email with instructions detailing the requirements. Otherwise, no action is needed.

These changes will not only improve the efficiency of our university email system, it is also the first step of a larger plan to offer university employees additional resources and services through Microsoft Office 365. Additional information regarding this rollout will be sent in the future.

What is my “official” university email address?

All faculty and staff at all campuses are given an email address that ends with upon accepting employment with the university. This is your official email address. The section before the @ symbol is your Network Username.

What domain names does the UTS Exchange email system accept messages from?

After the February 21, 2017 change to the Alias system, your alias can point to any of the domain names hosted in the UTS enterprise Exchange email system that are listed here:


Where can I go to setup or lookup my alias?

Before February 21, 2017 you can login to or and go to Personal and select Online Directory Data and Alias.  Select the Update Form option. The change will take approximately 24 hours to go into effect. After February 21, to setup or request an alias email address with the suffix, a request can be made by submitting a service ticket at or by calling the Service Desk at 803-777-1800.

Can I setup an alias after February 21, 2017?

Yes, it is possible to setup an alias after February 21, 2017.  Simply submit a service ticket at or call the Service Desk at 803-777-1800.

Do I need an alias email address?

No, an alias email address is not required. The most common reason a person uses an alias is they go by a name other than their given first name. For example, if a person’s name is Audrey Elaine Smith and the university email address they were assigned is, she may prefer an alias of
