The Lucille Jordan Palmer Collection of Jesse Stuart

Jesse Stuart (1906-1984), the Kentucky poet and writer, published over fifty books and more than three thousand articles.

Lucille Jordan Palmer, a college contemporary of Stuart's at Lincoln Memorial University (1926-1929), and a lifelong correspondent, donated to the University her important collection of Stuart material, including personally-inscribed first editions, more than fifty Stuart letters, and a box of periodical items, clippings and other background material. Especially notable is a signed copy of the slim pamphlet Lyrics from Lincoln Memorial University (1928), and one of only four known copies of Stuart's first book, Harvest of Youth (1930), inscribed to Mrs. Palmer August 30 1930. Stuart visited the University of South Carolina in 1960 and 1963, and Mrs. Palmer's donation complements the library's earlier acquisitions of Stuart titles.
