Brittany Wilson, communications manager for the Visitor Center, gives her perspective on how to make the most of your South Carolina campus visit.
Congratulations on being admitted to South Carolina! Now that you’re officially a Gamecock, you’re invited to attend Admitted Student Day, a day dedicated to celebrating you! At Admitted Student Day, you’ll meet your future classmates, learn more about your major and explore your new home. With all the excitement and fun surrounding the day, you’ll want to soak up every minute of it. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your Admitted Student Day experience.
1. Take a campus tour if you haven't already.
And even if you did, it doesn’t hurt to tour again. We want you to feel at home at South Carolina, and taking another stroll around campus will ensure you get that warm and fuzzy feeling.
2. Explore the Resource Fair.
During the afternoon, we’ll host a fair in Russell House with representatives from campus offices ready to answer your questions. Want to speak with someone from Financial Aid or New Student Orientation? They’ll be there. Parents, this is for you too!
The sooner you become familiar with the resources you have access to as a UofSC student, the easier your adjustment will be when you arrive on campus.
3. Talk with a current Gamecock in the Student Zone.
We’ll have a huge tent on Greene Street called the Student Zone, where current Gamecocks are available to answer your questions. We tell you a lot of things about what it’s like to be a Gamecock, but talking to the students who were once in your shoes, will really help you make your college decision. Take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions about anything. They’re eager to talk to you, so don’t be afraid to say hi!
Bonus: Talk with some of your future classmates and begin making connections.
4. Take photos.
You will start your freshman year, blink and suddenly be at graduation. Take photos at ASD so you can remember where it all started. Some of our favorite spots are the Cocky statue, Maxcy Monument on the Horseshoe and the painted Gamecock on Greene Street. We’ll also have big UofSC letters in front of the Thomas Cooper Library fountain, making the perfect photo op.
5. Don't forget to explore Columbia, too.
Part of your college decision includes the environment you want to be in, and exploring the city of Columbia can help! Grab a bite to eat with your family at a local restaurant in one of our entertainment districts. If the weather’s nice, visit the Riverwalk or visit the Riverbanks Zoo.
We hope you have a great time at Admitted Student Day. Best of luck as you find your college home!
