As a branch of the Office of Economic Engagement, TCO is uniquely equipped to facilitate
academic and business partnerships that arise from intellectual property managed by
the University. Licenses can lead to collaborative research relationships or sponsored
research agreements with the industry partners and stakeholders eager to deliver USC's
world-class research assets into the marketplace.
Centers and Facilities
The next great generation of great innovators has already discovered the breadth and depth of expertise at USC, and they're doing their part to predict and address future market needs in many industries. Below are examples of exciting transformations in the way academic institutions and key industry players are tackling the most critical challenges facing the our communities.
The Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) Center combines research and implementation solutions to support the U.S. Army Aviation program through historical data analysis, component testing, and advanced condition indicator development.The lab consists of smart predictive systems capable of running complicated diagnostic tests on a full-size Apache helicopter drivetrain, monitoring factors like temperature, vibration and acoustics.
The Center for Applied Innovation and Advanced Analytics is a public/private partnership between USC, Fluor Corporation and IBM to increase education and economic opportunities for South Carolina and the region. Experts from IBM and USC will conduct research and application services with an emphasis on the higher education industry. The center is expected to open in spring 2016.
The McNAIR Center for Aerospace was established to grow South Carolina's knowledge-based economy and support industry through aerospace education, research leadership and industry advancement. It is the only university-based aerospace center in the U.S. with a production-level automated fiber placement machine.
USC is home to 26 SmartState Centers of Economic Excellence, including 18 that are headquartered at USC's Columbia campus, and eight in which USC is a supporting research collaborator working with other South Carolina research institutions. These centers work to develop patents and products, commercialize technology, create new companies and job, and increase our state's per-capita income.
USC has a strong infrastructure consisting of high-tech facilities, equipment and other resources, which help ensure researchers have the tools they need to realize their visions. There are specialized research centers and institutes in virtually every discipline.
