Health, Wellness and Safety

A safe, healthy campus is an environment that fosters success. The Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support develops and offers programs, resources and services that encourage healthy behaviors and promote a lifetime of living well.

Behavioral Intervention Team

The Behavioral Intervention Team is an interdisciplinary group representing law enforcement, student conduct, counseling, residence life and other departments. Members work collaboratively to help keep the campus safe when students display behavior that could cause harm to themselves or others.

Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation provides all Gamecocks with programs and services that promote fitness and quality of life, including adventure and outdoor recreation, aquatics, club sports, fitness and intramurals.

Campus Wellness

With a focus on prevention, Campus Wellness offers nutrition counseling; wellness screenings; sexual health, stress management, tobacco cessation and weight loss programs; and a number of other resources to help students and employees create and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Carolina Community Coalition

Members of the coalition include UofSC students and employees, local residents, law enforcement officers, business owners and others who employ environmental prevention strategies to reduce the negative consequences of high-risk drinking and other substance use.

Counseling and Psychiatry

Professional counselors, social workers and psychiatrists serve students' mental health needs by offering individual and group support, medication monitoring and crisis intervention for students.

Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Support

Trained advocates offer resources and support to survivors of interpersonal violence and teach members of the Carolina community how to be active bystanders. Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention & Prevention is a confidential resource.

Mental Health Resources

An array of online, in-person and self-care resources help students improve their mental health by identifying and managing contributing factors from sleep and substance use to academic concerns and stress to grief and loss.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services aims to be students’ “medical home” by providing an array of coordinated services, including general medicine, women’s care, pharmacy and lab services and physical therapy.

Substance Abuse Prevention and Education

Online education modules, individual interventions, event registrations and group education are a few of the methods UofSC uses to help students make smart choices when it comes to alcohol and other substances.
