The desired outcome from successful applicants is research leading to the discovery of fundamentally new data-driven models of complex chemical or materials systems whose macroscopic properties depend on collective behavior across multiple scales. These models should lead to better understanding of chemical mechanisms, physical and chemical dynamics, materials systems with exceptional properties and functionalities, and novel quantum phenomena.
