SPTE 385

Sport and Entertainment Business

Sport is omnipresent. The sport industry has an impact on many aspects of our lives whether we are a sport participant, a sport fan (consumer) or a non-sport fan. Because of this over-arching presence, the Sport and Entertainment Industry (SPTE) serves one of the most significant and influential components of life in the United States and around the globe. Sport and Entertainment organizations are global leaders in the development of media, merchandise and cultural influences while driving billions of financial resources into the economies of businesses and countries around the world. The impact of SPTE is also evident in the everyday lives of individuals. Fans (consumers) spend countless hours and resources consuming sport and/or sport related merchandise in an increasing variety of outlets. Sport also impacts our educational systems in a variety of ways, which has tremendous impact on participants, non-participants and consumers. Yet, despite the widescale and obvious impact of SPTE on society, seldom do individuals examine the ethical impact of sport and entertainment organizations. SPTE 385, Ethics in Sport and Entertainment Business, examines the ethical issues associated with sport and entertainment through critical and thorough investigation, to encourage participants to develop informed opinions on each issue.
