Student Organization Requirements
To maintain recognition as a student organization at the University of South Carolina, student leaders are expected to engage in ongoing leadership development through trainings, workshops, and conference opportunities offered by the Leadership and Service Center, campus partners, and student organizations.
Organizations requesting funding or campus space must complete specific trainings related to those services, including Student Organization Funding Assistance Board (SOFAB) or Student Government Senate funding workshops and space reservation (25Live) training. While these are only required if seeking those resources, all recognized organizations must fulfill annual requirements as listed below:
The LSC is committed to investing in your organization and providing more opportunities for your organization to grow and develop. To remain an active and recognized student organization at USC, RSO's must complete the following requirements each academic year:
- Annual renewal (completed in March).
- Obtain at least three (3) leadership development credits per academic year.
- One (1) minimum representative at the Gamecocks LEAD Conference.
As Associated Student Organizations representing the University, we want you to be set up for success. Attending these workships will help you learn how to share your message effectively and be ready for the year ahead. To remain an active and recognized student organization at USC, ASO's must complete the following requirements each academic year:
- Annual renewal (completed in March).
- Obtain at least three (3) leadership development credits per academic year.
- Two (2) minimum representatives at the Gamecocks LEAD Conference.
- One (1) minimum representative (preferably an officer) at the Student Organization BEAK Retreat.
- University Communications Training (officer).
- University Risk Management Training (officer) to be completed through the annual renewal process.
Leadership Development Credits
Beginning Fall 2025, all recognized student organizations (RSOs, ASOs, FSL, and Sport Clubs) will be required to obtain a minimum of three (3) leadership development credits throughout the academic year (September–March) to renew for the upcoming year. These credits must be gained prior to submitting the organization’s annual renewal in March. The Leadership and Service Center (LSC) and campus partners offer a variety of programs that count towards these credits (see list below).
All workshops are held in RHUU 322 unless otherwise noted. Each workshop below counts as 1 credit.

University Communications Training (ASOs):

This required training equips ASO leaders/officers with essential communication guidelines and best practices for representing their organization and the university. The session will be offered virtually and must be attended by an ASO officer.
- Academic Student Organizations (ASOs) are required to complete this training once per academic year. Please check the Student Organization Requirements Tracker to confirm whether your organization has already fulfilled this requirement.
To remain recognized on campus, every organization is required to obtain a minimum of three (3) leadership development credits each academic year.
Students who attend these opportunities on behalf of their organization may represent up to three (3) organizations.
Additionally, student organizations are encouraged to host their own workshops open to the broader community or attend leadership-based workshops through other offices on campus. To qualify, these workshops must be led by a USC professional staff or faculty member and demonstrate clear relevance to leadership development. (If your organization wants to attend or host a workshop not listed below, please reach out to Rebecca Dooley for approval).
Annual Student Organization Renewal
All recognized student organizations (RSOs, ASOs, FSL, and Sport Clubs) will complete their annual renewal between March 1st - March 31st, 2026. During this process, you’ll submit information for the upcoming academic year to ensure your organization is set up for success with up-to-date leadership and planning. Please follow the guidelines below when completing your renewal.
- Review all university and student organization policies to ensure your organization is in compliance.
- Update the organizations roster, removing all graduating and non-active members, and updating officer roles.
- One officer should complete all moduals and assessments. The officer completing renewal is expected to share all information from moduals with members.
To start the Renewal process, visit Garnet Gate and sign in using your USC credentials. Then, hover over the organization logo on the left side and click "Manage". Look for the blue "Renew" button. Click and complete the following tutorials.
NO, you will need to fill out the name change request form after renewal has ended.
