Candidate Visits

Candidates will visit campus to meet with faculty, staff, students and other members of the Carolina community during the week of February 3rd.

During the visits, the search committee is hosting an Open Town Hall with Faculty and Staff with each candidate. 

To ensure that the search committee generates a list of consistent questions for three vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion finalists, faculty and staff are invited to submit questions online by Friday, January 31st.

Open Town Halls will occur on the following dates and times:

The Candidates

Dr. Deidra Dennie

Deidra B. Dennie is the Chief Diversity Officer of the Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland. Dr. Dennie developed and led a college-wide comprehensive assessment of campus climate and culture. Dr. Dennie created a diversity metric dashboard to drive strategic planning and monitor results.  She also led the improvement process to increase diverse hiring and increased partnerships with various external agencies, including county government and disability-serving agencies. Before joining Anne Arundel Community College, Dr. Dennie served as the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and Title IX Coordinator at Armstrong State University (now Georgia Southern University). She was previously Director of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Administrator at Kennesaw State University.

Mr. Julian Williams

Julian R. Williams is the Vice President of Inclusion and Diversity at George Mason University. Under Mr. Williams’ watch, in collaboration with numerous stakeholders, he drafted and implemented an institution-wide diversity/inclusion plan, designed to more effectively recruit and retain a diverse faculty and staff and resulting in a 7% increase in full-time faculty of color. Reporting directly to the President, he works collaboratively with all the academic and administrative units at George Mason University and with the surrounding community to ensure that the link between diversity and excellence is understood and integrated into the university’s fabric. Before joining George Mason University, Mr. Williams served as the Director of Equal Opportunity/Title IX Officer at Vassar College.  He was previously Director of Equity and Diversity at Monmouth University.
