What Makes This Community Different

The OAR community allows students to blaze their own trail as a leader for their community and career.  Students will have an active and hands-on learning experience with Residence Life and campus partners as they learn more about themselves and others around them.

Collaboration with Outdoor Recreation Programs and City of Columbia opportunities will enable students to attend workshops and trainings in the outdoor industry.  Additionally, the active, fun-filled community will allow students to find their fit and make their best friends during their time at Carolina.

First-Year Interest Groups (FIGS)

This community has several smaller clusters of 19 students living here, that relates to the overall theme. Students who choose to apply for this FIG community will have the opportunity to live with students who have similar outdoor activity and academic interests. Members of this FIG will have the opportunity to connect with a mentor team of students, faculty and staff during a scheduled seminar meeting time.
