First-year students live on campus so they can experience opportunities that will
help them make the most of their college experience, and to make sure they feel at
home at Carolina.
FALL 2023 APPLICATION PROCESS UPDATE
The application will open December 15, 2022 for the Fall 2023 - Spring 2024 school
year.
The housing application opens on December 15 and can be accessed in Self Service Carolina by clicking on “Personal” and then “My Housing Portal.” The application deadline is
May 3.
UofSC requires first-year students to live on campus because students experience a
stronger sense of community, better access to resources and more opportunities for
personal and academic growth.
Roommate Matching Profile
Your answers to the profile questions will allow you to match and be matched with
potential roommates. You will also create a username that will allow you to communicate
with other admitted students who have applied for housing while protecting your privacy.
If you would like to request gender-inclusive housing or require specific housing
accommodations, complete the information in the “Housing Opportunities & Accommodations”
section of the application.
You must meet all the requirements listed on the application to be considered for
specific accommodations. You must also register any housing accommodations with the
Student Disability Resource Center to process the request.
Submit your application
Before submitting your housing application, you are required to pay a $100 nonrefundable
application fee.
Students with extenuating circumstances may request to have application fee deferred
until the fall by completing the deferral form on the housing website under the “Apply
for Housing” section.
EXPLORE ADDITIONAL HOUSING OPTIONS
After submitting your housing application, you have the option to apply for a Living
and Learning Community (LLC) or a Residential Learning Program.
LLCs and Residential Learning Programs provide unique living environments that help
students engage with others of similar interests. These themed communities are staffed
by a faculty member who is an expert in their field.
The deadline to apply is May 3, and students will be notified by the middle of May
of their acceptance into an LLC or Residential Learning Program.
After submitting your housing application, you will receive an email with information
on selecting your roommate through the “My Housing Portal” in Self Service Carolina. Roommate matching will remain open until the completion of the housing process.
Options for choosing a roommate
Once in the Housing Portal, you will have two options for choosing a roommate:
Option 1: Using their screen name, select a student with whom you wish to live. Once
the request is sent and accepted by the student, you will both receive confirmation
emails.
Option 2: View the profiles of potential roommate matches. This list includes the
top 25 students who best fit your needs based on the questions you answered when completing
the housing application. You can use this screen name to email the student and begin
a conversation.
Confirming roommates
Once you choose a student, send a roommate request. Both you and the roommate you
requested will receive confirmation emails.
If you do not want to roommate match, you can view the profiles of the student(s)
who selected the same room as you during the room selection process.
Note: Regardless of which option you choose, you can return to the housing application
in the Housing Portal to review, cancel or find a new roommate at any time.
CHECK OUT YOUR RESIDENCE HALL AND ROOM OPTIONS
We offer traditional, suite, apartment style and affiliated apartment style residence
halls. Each hall has its own unique history, set of traditions, personality and opportunities
for its residents. Take a look inside each building on our housing website, including
360 degree tours of each residence hall. Styles and pricing vary, so be sure to review
all the options before selecting the hall that best meets your needs.
SELECT YOUR RESIDENCE HALL AND ROOM
Beginning in early June, students who apply before May 3 will be allowed to select
their residence hall and room through the “My Housing Portal” in Self Service Carolina
(my.sc.edu) during a designated selection day and time. These dates and times vary
by building and community, and will be available in late May in the Housing Portal.
Priority for residence hall and room selection is based on the day and time the student
submits the housing application. Roommates with the earliest day and time should make
the selection on behalf of both roommates.
Note: If you are accepted to a Living and Learning Community (LLC) or Residential
Learning Program, you will select only your room.
