What to Expect
On college campuses, many students in crisis are not seeking services at the counseling center. Instead, the warning signs of a suicidal person are often observed by peers, faculty, staff, and family members. Most individuals are unaware of these warning signs or do not know how to respond.
Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training will:
- Teach you the warning signs of a suicidal person and early signs of depression
- Assist you in gaining confidence in how to respond
- Educate you about the resources available at the University of South Carolina
You are not expected to be a mental health professional. This is the why we use the word “gatekeeper”. You are invaluable to assisting a struggling person in getting the help they need. You serve as “gatekeepers” to mental health services.
