Gamecock Gateway

Frequently Asked Questions

Gamecock Gateway students need to navigate two institutions and that often leads to many questions for both students and their parents and supporters. This page should help answer some of these common questions.

Students

It is a misconception of GG students that they cannot join clubs, you are free to explore any of the 100s of USC clubs, you just cannot hold office until you transfer! We encourage our students to get involved as research has shown students who participate in extracurricular activities have better time management skills, better well being, and better grades!

Not necessarily and it depends! D’s will count toward your transfer credits, but not count toward your course credit in the long run. Meaning you may be able to transfer, as long as you meet the other requirements, but you will likely have to take the course again in your future collegiate career at USC. To cover all the bases, please reach out to your advisor or utilize the GPA calculator resource to estimate what your GPA will come out to be.

This may be an issue due to password expiration, which occurs at USC every 6 months, meaning you have to change your password in your account settings. In this same site, you can access account reclaiming if none of your authentication options are working. You can also call or email USC IT for help here

Unfortunately there is no option to waive the housing requirement at GG, if you need housing accommodations you can contact the Student Disability Resource Center here

Please email Orientation at orientation@sc.edu to determine if you are eligible.

LIFE scholarship is awarded for the whole year, therefore if you cannot obtain a 3.0 by the end of the summer, you will lose LIFE for the whole year, however the upside of that is if you do bad in the Fall, you still receive the funds for that year and have the chance to bring your grades up to qualify the next year.

Parents

When a student turns 18 years old, or enters a postsecondary institution at any age, the rights under FERPA transfer from the parents/guardian to the student. Your student should have filled out a FERPA form for USC and MTC to give permission. If you want to attend a meeting with your student, have your student reach out to Gateway email for this form. Think about HIPAA but for education!

Given the USC and Midlands agreement, students pay Midlands and Midlands pays USC. Because of that, the financial aid does not go through USC which results in an error message for students. This message can be ignored.

Yes! Review our website for more information here.

Unfortunately, the GG deposit is non-refundable. This amount will be applied to housing and helps ensure students committed to the program can secure their spot. If you get your deposit waived, it will be paid by your financial aid. This may cause an additional charge on your bill.

USC does not enforce a curfew in dorms. We expect our students to begin making sound decisions on what’s best for their education, while having the opportunity to learn from mistakes!
