Dual Email Account Holder,

Good news! We were able to complete some processes of the account movement to the Cloud faster than originally anticipated. Beginning today, all dual account holders regained access to calendars. You can now free/busy search before making appointments, and others can also free/busy search your calendar. To free/busy search dual users, the @email.sc.edu address will need to be entered in the To field of the meeting appointment since dual users are not yet in the address book.

To improve information security throughout the Columbia campus and remote access, IMAP and POP3 protocols will be disabled beginning October 18, 2018. IMAP and POP3 are older protocols used to access email messages. The connections are unsecure and are used by many hackers to access university information and send malicious emails. The university has seen three attacks that originated from the IMAP protocol within the past six months, causing major outages and lost productivity.

UofSC employee,

Over the next few months, all employee email will be moved to the Microsoft Cloud. The move will combine our employee and student emails into a single system, allowing for better collaboration. In addition, mail stored in the cloud is more secure, greatly reducing future risk.

Beginning this week, some employee mailboxes will be moved to the cloud. The first accounts scheduled to be moved are those of dual account holders, or individuals who have both an employee and a student email account. These accounts will be moved from September 18-October 2, 2018. If you are a dual account holder, you have already been notified of the date your account will be moved. If you aren’t please keep reading, as there is important information that all employees should know.

Last year, the Division of Information Technology began work to move all faculty/staff email, calendars, and contacts to Microsoft Office 365 Cloud. The project was placed on hold as we conducted more research related to individuals, like yourself, who have both a student email account (@email.sc.edu) and an employee account (@mailbox.sc.edu). It’s possible that you aren’t a student anymore, but your student email account is still active and cannot be deleted at this time.
