Diversity Training

Conducted by various office across campus, these diversity and inclusion training opportunities are available to faculty, staff and students who wish to learn more about becoming allies for members of our diverse community.

Facilitating Discussion in the Classroom

In addition to achieving academic excellence, UofSC students are often exposed to new social challenges and perspectives that differ from those in their home environment. This collection of resources helps instructors to facilitate difficult conversations so that students can safely and critically engage about controvercial social issues.

Green Zone Training

The Green Zone Training program helps the process of transitioning from the military to civilian life for all veterans, especially for those who are navigating the complex environment of a large public research university.  Faculty, staff, and undergraduate students need to be aware of the potential issues an undergraduate student veteran might face on a college campus and know what resources are available for this population.

Center for Teaching Excellence Training

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), in consultation with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, launched a “Diversity and Inclusive Teaching” initiative for 2015-2016. Events will include a series of open workshops on inclusive teaching, a series of interactive theatre presentations led by CTE Faculty Fellows Peter Duffy (Associate Professor of Theatre) and Rhonda Jeffries (Associate Professor of Instruction and Teacher Education), as well as special workshop sessions at New Faculty Academy and Oktoberbest: A Symposium on Teaching. 

Intercultural Training

The Intercultural Training program will help ease cultural clashes, miscommunication, and prejudices. Similar to safe zone and green zone trainings, faculty and staff members who complete this program will receive a certificate and will be better equipped to promote and provide and inclusive environment on campus for international students, in addition to preparing themselves for international experiences of their own.

Safe Zone Training

The Safe Zone program aims to build a visible network of allies who are committed to creating a community of respect and dignity for LGBTQ individuals. The Safe Zone program makes it possible to easily identify individuals who are committed to creating an environment in which all people are free to thrive academically, professionally and personally, and it provides an avenue for University of South Carolina community members to show their support for the LGBTQ community.

Human Resources Training

While some Human Resources Training programs have been developed to help employees enhance day-to-day job skills, others have been designed for our faculty and staff to gain greater knowledge of university operations. From hiring and team building to interactions with students, diversity and inclusion are common threads that should be considered in every aspect of our careers at UofSC.
