Amazing Animal Behavior and the Brain Circuits that Guide It

Explore the incredible diversity of animal behavior!

We’ll examine questions like “How do deep ocean fish navigate in a world with almost no light?” and “How do you teach a pigeon to play ping pong?” This behavior is both natural (innate) and learned, but ultimately animal behavior is driven by how an animal has evolved to cope with their environment (including social environment) to help them survive. To do this, we’ll explore the brain circuits that have evolved alongside different types of behaviors to promote things like social bonding, learning and memory, feeding, and aggression.

Along the way, you’ll also learn about the diversity of human behavior from how we each cope with stress and bullying to why we crave sweets and how we learn! At each step, you’ll get to make critical decisions in designing an animal of your own creation and determine what that means for the type of brain and neural circuits it has!
