I instantly fell in love with the idea that lifeguarding and Campus Recreation allowed me to work with amazing people, and give me the chance to make a difference in someone else’s life. This role within Student Life enables me to impact South Carolina students and community in such a unique way.

Background

Shelby began lifeguarding at the age of 16 as just a part-time summer job, which has developed into a professional career in Aquatics. Her most recent position was serving as the Aquatics Graduate Assistant at Oklahoma State University from 2020-2022.

In 2018 and 2019, Shelby decided to work at my childhood Girl Scout camp where she lifeguarded, assisted in leading Red Cross Basic Sailing courses, and taught swim lessons. She also worked as a lifeguard at the Ole Miss Campus Recreation facilities during her undergraduate years. Shelby has also previously worked as the Swim Administrator for Lifetime Fitness in 2020.

Personal

Shelby loves anything by the water. Anytime she is not working, you can probably find her sailing or at a beach. Shelby also enjoys cooking and any live music. She is involved with Girl Scouts of American and has served on the Region IV Communications Committee with NIRSA for the last two years.
