Don Mills III

As the intramural sports director, Don Mills assists with running the University of South Carolina’s intramural sports leagues, tournament and special events. Nearly 150 student employees help provide the intramural sport experience for more than 10,000 participants each year. He joined Campus Recreation in July 2014.
Don began his campus recreation career as an intern at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., from 2009-2011. While at Samford, Don assisted in all areas of recreation including intramurals, sport clubs, facilities, fitness and outdoor recreation programming.
During 2011-2012, Don was an intramural sports graduate assistant with the University of Alabama at Birmingham working with officials, supervisors and participants to help run their competitive sports program. While at UAB, Don began work on an alternative master’s program in physical education.
From 2012-2014, Don worked at the University of Tennessee as one of their graduate assistants for intramural sports. While at Tennessee, he assisted with developing, directing and assessing the intramural program. In April 2014, Don was honored with the Buck Jones Award through the school’s Partners in Sports organization. This award is given to the student who best exemplifies the standards of excellence set forth by the organization’s founder.
Don has been active in sports since he was young, and he began officiating in 2009 while at Samford. He has officiated basketball, baseball, fast-pitch softball and football at the high school level. He believes that officiating can provide you with many life skills, including decision making, leadership, teamwork, communication, rule enforcement and conflict management.
Don earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania in 2008 and a Master of Science in Recreation and Sport Management from the University of Tennessee in 2014.
Don is originally from Chalfont, Penn. Even though his career has taken him far from home, he enjoys spending time with his family and high school friends.
