B.A. Art History & Archaeology, Washington University in St. Louis
M.A. History of Art & Architecture, Brown University

Background

Hometown: Columbia, SC

About Me:  I am originally from Columbia and grew up frequenting the USC campus, where my father is a professor. I graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis, with a major in Art History and minors in Economics and American Culture Studies. I pursued my passion for art history to graduate school at Brown University, where I received an M.A. in the History of Art and Architecture. My research focused on the treatment and reception of photography in museums of art. At Brown, I was active in student advocacy and governance, and my commitment to working with students in and out of the classroom ultimately led me to a career in advising at the University of South Carolina. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my two sons, husband, parents and cat. I love to cook, am an avid reader of fantasy and historical fiction, am obsessed with the local Columbia food scene, and have traveled to more than 20 countries.

Favorite Quote: "Art is much less important than life, but what a poor life without it" - Robert Motherwell

Advice to Students: Find opportunities to explore interests outside of your academic major - take a class in a new subject you're curious about, join an organization that isn't directly related to your post-collegiate goals, explore a minor that helps you build skills you've always wanted to develop. College is a time for exploration, so take advantage wherever you can!
