1. Regardless of individual course grades, students must maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA.
2. Courses indicated in the major GPA column are included in the major GPA for this program of study.
3. The Carolina Core provides the common core of knowledge, skill and academic experience for all Carolina undergraduate students.
4. Students in Palmetto College are required to demonstrate proficiency in one foreign language equivalent to the 122 course through course credit or placement score.
5. The Arts and Sciences electives must include two disciplines. See Bulletin for a list of course options.
6. No courses of a remedial, developmental, skill-acquiring, or vocational nature may apply as credit toward degrees in Palmetto College. 
7. Liberal Studies major courses (27 hours) must be at the upper level, with at least 15 hours at the 400-level or above, with the exception of Sociology, in which the following 300-level courses may be substituted for 400-level courses: SOCY 304, 305, 312, 320, 323, 340.  At least 15 hours must be USC courses.  No more than hours of the major will be accepted in transfer.  The student’s major will be chosen from TWO of the following disciplines, with a minimum of 12 hours required in each of the two disciplines:

Program Notes

• The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies is designed for students who want to pursue liberal studies without a major in a single discipline.
• A specific Program of Study is developed by the student and advisor and approved by the Associate Provost; any changes must also be approved.
• All undergraduate students must take a 3-credit course or its equivalent with a passing grade that covers the founding documents. This course may fulfill any requirement in the program of study. Courses that meet this requirement are listed in the academic bulletin. 
• The last 30 credit hours toward the degree must be earned in residence at the University of South Carolina-Columbia.
