1. Regardless of individual course grades, students must maintain a minimum 2.000 cumulative GPA.
2. Some colleges require a minimum GPA for major courses. Courses indicated in this column are included in the major GPA for this program of study.
3. Students in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences are required to demonstrate proficiency in one foreign language equivalent to the 122 course through course credit or the corresponding foreign language placement score.
4. The Carolina Core provides the common core of knowledge, skill and academic experience for all Carolina undergraduate students.
5. The McCausland College of Arts and Sciences requires one U.S. History and one non-U.S. History course, both of which must be chosen from the approved Carolina Core GHS courses. Whichever is not fulfilled through the Carolina Core GHS requirement must be fulfilled through this college requirement.
6. Global Studies Major Courses (9 hours): Select 9 hours from the following: GLST 220, GLST 300, GLST 305 or GEOG 305, GLST 308 or FAME 308, GLST 320 or GEOG 320, GLST 370, GLST 380 or GEOG 380, GLST 391, GLST 531; EDFI 361. 
7. Global Studies Major Electives (9 hours): Students must select one of the following concentrations and complete 9 hours of major electives from the courses in that concentration:  
   1. Global Economic Development
   2. Global Humanitarian Action
   3. Global Peace, Conflict, and Diplomacy
   4. Global and Transnational Cultures
   5. Note: Students are strongly encouraged to spend a period of time overseas, preferably in a country where they can develop their language skills.  Participating in a study abroad program or an overseas work experience are two ways to gain an international experience.  A period of a semester or full year is most beneficial.  Approved study abroad courses may apply to some Global Studies major requirements, with permission of the advisor and the college. 
8. Students must declare and complete a minor in either (1) a foreign language (in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures) or (2) a minor in an area studies program from the following list: a) African Studies, b) Asian Studies, c) European Studies, d) Islamic World Studies, e) Latin American, Caribbean, and US Latinx Studies f)Middle East Studies Slavic,  or g) East-Central European, and Eurasian Studies. Note: Courses applied toward general education requirements cannot be counted toward the minor. No course may satisfy both major and minor requirements. All minor courses must be passed with a grade of C or higher. At least half of the cours
9. No courses of a remedial, developmental, skill-acquiring, or vocational nature may apply as credit toward degrees in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. The McCausland College of Arts and Sciences allows the use of the Pass-Fail option on elective courses.

Program Notes

• Courses identified as “critical” must be completed in the student’s first 60 semester hours of work in order for these courses to be credited toward graduation.
• All undergraduate students must take a 3-credit course or its equivalent with a passing grade that covers the founding documents. Courses that meet this requirement are listed in the academic bulletin. 
• The last 30 credit hours toward your degree must be earned in residence at the University of South Carolina-Columbia.
