EDLP 520 is a unique class designed to provide a forum for reflection on and processing of the University 101 Peer Leader experience and to allow peer leaders to develop and practice important leadership skills that are transferrable to other settings. Discussion revolves around such topics as group facilitation skills, mentoring and helping skills, leadership styles, classroom management strategies, and other related issues.
Designed by University 101 staff, the Peer Leader Toolkit is the primary resource for understanding the purpose of University 101 and developing skills for facilitating discussions, mentoring and referring students, and working with a co-instructor. It also provides helpful information and tips about applying the University 101 experience to future workplace settings.
The textbook for all UNIV 101 courses is designed by University 101 staff and tailored to the first-year experience of USC students. Transitions contains a wealth of information about campus resources and navigating the Carolina experience, along with activities students can use to enhance their learning. Instructors and peer leaders utilize this resource with their students throughout the semester.
Sharepoint provides a place where instructors and peer leaders can access electronic course materials, such as videos, PowerPoint presentations, etc. An electronic version of the Faculty Resource Manual allows instructors to make changes to activities and handouts to customize for their needs. Other features of this site include a discussion board for sharing ideas and a comprehensive calendar with important University 101 dates (faculty meetings, workshops, etc), academic calendar dates (drop/add, semester breaks), and USC dates (involvement fair, etc).
